Lysophosphatidic Acid (LPA) is a small lysophospholipid involved in diverse cellular processes such as cell proliferation, chemotaxis, platelet aggregation, wound healing, angiogenesis, tumor invasion, and smooth muscle contraction. LPA binds to several G-coupled protein receptors to initiate its biological functions. In cancer, LPA primarily promotes cell survival, migration and invasion. LPA Biotin is labeled at the sn-1 position.

Specifications and Storage Recommendations: Phospholipids/lysophospholipids are fairly stable at room temperature in dry form. They are best stored dry at -80ºC. Plastic containers may be used for the storage of short-chain phospholipids; however, longer-chain phospholipids should be stored in glass containers to prevent material loss due to adsorption on the vessel surface. Storage in basic buffers (pH > 9.0) and acidic buffers (pH < 4.0) will result in slow hydrolysis and migration of the ester chains and may cause other forms of decomposition.
Field of Interest: Many bioactive lysophospholipid compounds exhibit pleiomorphic effects on numerous cell lineages including ovarian cancer cells as described in many publications. Depending on the application, choices can be made from a variety of lysophospholipid analogs including saturated or polyunsaturated lipid species, non-migrating and nonhydrolyzable analogs, labeled derivatives, and metabolically stable agonists and antagonists.

LPA-biotin is not listed as a hazardous waste or as a toxic chemical subject to release reporting under the Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act.
